About WISTA UK

Networking, Educational Events and Mentoring for the UK Maritime Sector – WISTA UK

Addressing the Gender Imbalance in shipping and maritime – WISTA UK

WISTA UK is the longest existing national WISTA countries, as it was in London that WISTA was founded in 1974. London and the UK are very proud to be the birthplace of our international organisation that over the years has grown worldwide. The international WISTA is an umbrella organisation with a presence in 35 countries and with over 2,100 worldwide.

Here in the UK we have well in excess of 140 members, many of them having been with us for many years, contributing much valuable input; at the same time, we encourage and invite young people starting in the industry to join us, as they are the ones who will most appreciate support and mentoring and can benefit enormously from all our contacts and experience.

WISTA UK aims to be a major player in attracting more women to the industry and in supporting women in shipping and maritime sectors. Through networking, education and mentoring together we can enhance members’ competence and empower career success.

In general, our members are well known, successful and respected in the UK and abroad.

WISTA UK is governed by a four-member executive committee. The committee meets regularly in order to ensure that the plans, projects and programmes are followed up and concluded successfully. The committee also meets anytime when there are critical issues that impact the well being of the membership.

The executive committee is elected for a three-year period. The committee includes the President, a secretary, a treasurer and a person responsible for membership.

The President also invites appropriate members to work on the various commissions that take care of the day-to-day work and activities of WISTA UK.

Events Committee. We currently have our events committee who look after the social and educational activities of WISTA UK. If you would like to join this committee please contact us as we welcome new members to join us. events@wista-uk.net
