Together with Scottish Maritime Cluster, WISTA UK hosted a “Renewables and Offshore Wind Event” at the Northern Lighthouse Board’s (NLB) newly refurbished offices in Edinburgh, Scotland. The event shed light on the renewables and offshore wind markets, while also exploring the pivotal role of women in maritime.
WISTA UK President Monica Kohli and CEO at Caledonian Maritime Assets Kevin Hobbs welcomed guests on behalf of NLB and WISTA U.K. respectively, which followed with Mike Bullock providing delegates with a brief history of the NLB.
We were delighted to welcome Scottish Cabinet Secretary for Transport Fiona Hyslop as our keynote speaker. The Minister reflected on previous projects and achievements before discussing the current and future plans for Scotland’s renewable energy market and the role for women in maritime in Scotland. It was empowering to hear The Scottish Government’s commitment to championing diversity within the industry and decarbonising the sector.
We then welcomed Kiera Wilson at ScottishPower Renewables, Leonore Frame at Scottish Enterprise and Jeremy Panes at Waves Group Ltd to stage to discuss the technical aspects of the offshore industry and the overlap with maritime.
We were delighted to welcome our members and industry friends to our first event in Scotland, and hope to collaborate with and invite more shipping and energy professionals at future events in Scotland.
The evening then concluded with a drinks reception and the chance to network with industry professionals and high-calibre personnel from the Scottish government.
A special thanks to the event sponsors Clyde Marine Training Ltd, ScottishPower Renewables, and Waves Group Ltd, as well as the Department for Transport (DfT), United Kingdom for its support.
